“Mama Merienda” was born out of the countless endearing times I requested a snack from my mother in Filipino “mama, merienda po? (translation: mom, snack please)”. And to my delight, my mother would always have something to keep me and my brother well fed and happy. Some of our most cherished bonding memories were spent on the balcony sharing a pack of Oishi or Clover chips and a refreshing mango juice during a hot Manila day.
My mother would always insist that I keep a pack of Skyflakes or Rebisco in my bag to make sure that I never go hungry. This was her language of love and I am the luckiest daughter to have experienced her thoughtfulness. Now that I am living away from home, I show my Filipino hospitality by sharing my beloved childhood snacks to the people around me. My humble hope is to be able to bring Filipino food to all cities in the Netherlands, as my way of showcasing the warmth and joy of the Filipino culture.
Mama Merienda invites everyone to go on a flavorful journey with us, savouring wonderful Filipino snacks that evoke memories of love, kindness and the simple joys of life.
